MINUTES FOR April 27, 2009

Members present: Fr. Lawler, Rosemary Robbins, Barbara Steiner, Mark Windmiller. Members Absent: Jeff Cornwell; Susan Durst. Lee Weldon


I. OPENING PRAYER: The meeting was opened with a prayer; “Catholic Prayer for the Easter Virtues” was read in unison by members present.


II. MINUTES: The minutes of the March meeting were reviewed by the committee members. The minutes were accepted as presented. 




A. Religious Education: Rosemary Robbins, DRE reported the following:

      1.The RCIA participants attended the Reconciliation Service and made their first confessions.

      2. Monthly catechists meeting held. All catechists present signed letter of intent to return next

year. Each catechist received most questions asked about Paschal Triduum to utilize in their

            classrooms and Easter coloring handouts according to age level.

      3. Palm Sunday dinner sponsored by RE department. Sr. Sally of the Diocesan Office of RE

            presented the parish with Full Accreditation status. St Mary’s Religious Ed program fulfills

            all the requirements set by the Diocesan Board of Catholic Education.

      4. Thank you to Laura Era and her crew for the Palm Sunday presentation of the Stations of the

Cross through the eyes of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 

      5. Members of the RCIA team and candidates attended the Chrism Mass at Holy Cross in Dover.

            The rosary was taught by Ceil Cone as they traveled.

      6. DRE prepared certificates for RCIA candidates received into the Church at the Easter Vigil.

      7. RCIA elect, Lisa Booze and Nancy Garvey and candidates Dylan Emerson, Chris Fazio and       Lynn Wheatley were received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. We joyfully welcome all            

five members to our parish family.

8. Two practices were held for the First Communion candidates and their families during RE

classes on April 19th and 26th.

9. Retreat invitations were sent out and a two-hour retreat will be held on Thursday, April 30th 

for the families of the six First Communicants in the hall

    10. Retreat held for confirmation candidates on Saturday, April 19th from 12:30 to

4:30PM in the hall. Regina Yankalunas and college students from Salisbury University Catholic Campus Ministry presented the retreat. The students enjoyed an afternoon of spiritual growth and prayerful meditation as well as pizza and fellowship. The retreat helped the candidates discern the question how they will use their gifts and fruits from the Holy Spirit in their call to serve God. The retreat ended with the student participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and attending Mass.




B. Adult Learning: Mark Windmiller

1.Adult Bible “Reading the Letters of St. Paul” text used in current sessions on St. Paul.  Group has

            finished 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians. 2 Corinthians will be taken up at the next class.

            Approach is reflective and meditative.

            Discussion held as to how to increase participation in group. Advertising group with posters

            was suggested. Need to increase invitations, advertising for the program, to keep asking and

find creative ways to get folks involved. Also to make a schedule.


C. Parish Council Report: Lee Weldon absent. no report – Parish Council has not met this month.


C. Youth Ministry-report by Lee Weldon: “Can we solve this problem?”

            No discussion due to Lee’s absence. Attending City Council meeting.


D. Women’s Faith Sharing: Continuing study of the Apostles. In the fall group will meet in two

sessions adding new members to second session. More info will follow. Group needs




A. Youth Ministry: Lee’s plan – need people who are willing to commit time and energy to items.

            No other discussion due to Lee’s absence.



A.  Replacing committee members: two members have served their 3-year term. They may serve


            Suggestions made and needed for additional members.

            Presently there are 5 members plus the DRE and Pastor.

            Suggested that Catechist elect a member to serve on CFC.

            Appreciation luncheon for Catechists will be at Snappers on Sunday, May 31 at 3pm.

B. The Plan (establish goals)

            Discussion of goals and objectives. In process of working on goals – ongoing and follow-ups.


VI. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm

No meeting in May. Members will be unavailable due to Memorial Day weekend.


The Next meeting will be June 22, 2009
